The Summer Food Service Program for Children:
Food That’s in When School is Out.
Good nutrition is essential for effective learning every day, all year long. Just as learning does not end when school lets out, neither does the need for good nutrition. Children who aren't hungry learn better, act better, and feel better. The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) helps children get the nutrition they need to learn, play, and grow throughout the summer months when they are out of school.
Find a Summer Food Service Program in your area.
While millions of children depend on nutritious, free, and reduced-price meals and snacks at school for 9 months out of the year, just a fraction of them receive the free meals provided by the SFSP during the summer months. Communities need people and organizations that are willing to participate in the Summer Food Service Program to increase the number of children who receive these meals.
Approximately 10,000 children in Bucks County are eligible to receive free meals in the summer yet only a fraction of them have access to them. If you or your organization is interested in helping fill the gap, you can become a SFSP site or sponsor. A sponsor has a direct relationship with the State and is responsible for fulfilling all the government regulations involved in the program. A site, which works with a sponsor, and has a smaller role in fulfilling regulations but has less control over some decisions, such as menu.
